I joined the High Street Graduate programme in 2003. My first job was Assistant Buyer for Computing, a new a category I had to set up! I was then promoted to Buyer and tasked with moving more of our business to China so we could offer customers better value. Promotions followed and I eventually moved to Head of Trading for Non-Fiction Books and Digital Books to gain marketing and promotional experience. I had to manage TV campaigns and work in partnership with KOBO to launch their eReaders and eBooks offer in the UK – which allowed me exposure to the WHSmith Board. With our Travel business growing, I became Group Director for News & Mags and Food & Drink. Eventually this led to a role as Commercial Director for Travel, which covers Buying and Marketing and is challenging but very rewarding and I thrive on seeing all the great people in our teams succeed.
