In my first year, I worked on various projects and got more exposure cross-functionally. I worked on a project to change all the tills and software in 600 Travel units; an email upgrade; and the introduction of tablets to stores, which really raised my profile.

My proudest achievement was running the Alicante IT project. This involved scoping out a business model for what systems we could use internationally, implementation, managing costs and expectations, and representing IT in meetings.

I’ve stayed with WHSmith because of the autonomy I get and the variety of projects. Compared with my peers, I feel I get far more exposure thanks to the company’s flat structure. I’d like to continue working on our international expansion and be involved in business change programmes.
